ABBEY ACADEMIC MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAMME (AMSP) FOR INDIGENES OF IDO ILE EKITI
The Abbey Academic Merit Scholarships program is a project initiated by the Abbey Merit Foundation driven by Mr Julius Olugbenga Abiodun FCA. This initiative stems from a profound belief in the transformative power of education, with the mission to combat poverty, disease, unemployment, and various societal issues afflicting rural communities in our nation.
Julius Abiodun’s inspiration for this endeavor originates from his life journey. Raised by a single parent and petty trader, the late Mrs Dorcas Aina Abiodun with no fixed source of income, having lost her husband, Julius’s father, Mr Ezekiel Abiodun, a humble farmer.
Tragically, Julius lost his father when he was just a toddler. Due to these challenging circumstances, quality education seemed an unattainable dream. Yet, through providence and his mother’s unwavering determination, Julius commenced his educational journey at St. John’s Anglican Primary School, Ido Ajinare Ekiti (now Ido Ile Ekiti). His educational path led him through St. John’s Modern School Aramoko Ekiti, African Church Teachers Training College, Epinmi Akoko in Ondo State, and ultimately to the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).
In defiance of numerous adversities, he achieved an exceptional first-class honors degree in Economics, pursued a career in Chartered Accounting, and today stands as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria. It is Julius’s heartfelt conviction that with the proper guidance, any determined child can surmount the barriers to attaining academic excellence. The Abbey Academic Merit Scholarship aims to serve as significant support in this noble pursuit.

The Abbey Academic Merit Scholarship is a tribute to the memory of Julius’s late mother, Mrs Dorcas Aina Abiodun, his late father, Mr Ezekiel Abiodun, his uncle, late Reverend Canon Solomon O Afolami, and the late Eyemoye of Ido Ile, Chief Regina Wuraola affectionately known as Iya Alaso. These remarkable individuals, especially Iya Alaso, who stepped in as a surrogate father, upheld unwavering discipline in his upbringing. Throughout his journey, Her enduring maxim “Ateleo oni mejeji, e tan nii je” which translates to “One’s two hands are the tools with which to achieve liberation through hard work.” guided Julius. Their legacy lives on, and may their souls rest in eternal peace.
